Song 3: The Song of Sorrow
The Ere of All fashioned
an anvil of inestimable hardness
and a forge of unquenchable fire
and a lantern of inexhaustable light.
These he used to bring forth
the work of his greatest desire.
The Aenir called this work Erenth
and grew to love it exceedingly,
but one of the Aenir
grew discontent and imagined evil,
for that one felt Erenth
would transcend his place
in the sight of all that dwelled in Erenes.
So his envy festered
and his imaginings turned toward evil.
He was called Agellas
and though he was once highly favored
among the Aenir
his name is not now spoken.
