Because Bounty Hunting is a dangerous profession, but one that is necessary for the good order of all societies and the protection of nobility everywhere, we therefore, the undersigned regents and rulers from the Four Lands bind ourselves mutually to the institution and protection of the articles following:
Article I: The organizations that arise from the institution of these articles shall be known as the Bounty Hunters Guild.
Article II: The purpose of the organization shall be to extend the justice of great men and cities beyond their borders by empowering licensed agents under certain rules to make acquisitions of fugitives from any lord's justice.
Article III: The membership of this organization shall be open to all individuals who recognize these articles and swear to uphold them faithfully; who are sponsored from their Home City; who have completed one bounty, and who have subsequently taken the mark of the guild upon their chest.
Article IV: The organization shall be a confederation of chapters, each with a specific jurisdiction. Each chapter will be established in a chartered city with the following officers: a Broker, a Factor, a Caller and the Sergeant-at-Arms.
It shall be the duty of the broker to enroll bounties and to communicate with the nobility and companies which desire to be its clients. It shall be his further duty to protect the clients with a wall of anonymity. It shall also be his duty to faithfully represent the actions of the guild before the sovereign of whatever land in which he is established.
It shall be the duty of the factor to keep the accounts and see to the transfer of funds from clients to the guild, and then from the guild to the hunters.
It shall be the duty of the caller to be the face of the organization to the guild members, and to assign bounties, and to keep the time for their return, and to open delinquent bounties to the general membership.
It shall be the duty of the Sergeant-at-Arms to see to the protection of the guild officers and to ensure the good operation of the guild a given city and to preside over the election of new or replacement officers.
Article V: The guild will operate under the following code. Violators will be subject to trial of the membership and may suffer pain of expulsion as well as remand to the local authorities.
- No hunter is afforded protection of the guild without taking the legitimate mark upon his breast and having his dues in good standing.
- Each bounty will be offered exclusively for a period of one full moon to an individual member chosen by the caller. Thereafter, the bounty will be offered to the general membership for the period of one full moon. On the third moon, the bounty will be offered to all persons irrespective of membership. Regardless, a bounty will only be paid to one hunter.
- Each fugitive will be designated as kill or capture.
- No hunter will be given the name of his clients, nor the reason for the bounty, but only a stamped warrant which must be issued in the name of the beadle of the Home City. No hunter will attempt to breach the wall of anonymity.
- No hunter will violate the law of sanctuary and make acquisition of fugitives upon the Holy Ground of men or demi-men.
- No hunter will be expected to respect the station of fugitives. All who are fugitives are merely acquisitions and have forfeit their right to noble standing.
- No hunter will be charged with trespass, or with house-breaking, or with criminal entry, of any yard, garden, manse, domicile, keep or residence so long as a true acquisition is made therein; and provided the sworn warrant is in his possession at the time. If no acquisition is made, or no warrant held, the hunter will be subject to local justice.
- No hunter will be charged with murder for executing a kill acquisition, provided that the acquisition alone is killed and the hunter is in possession of the warrant. If multiple deaths occur during acquisition, or no warrant held, the hunter will be subject to local justice.
- No hunter will be charged with man-stealing for executing a capture acquisition, provided that the acquisition alone is captured and the hunter is in possession of the warrant. If multiple captures are made during acquisition, or no warrant held, the hunter will be subject to local justice.
- No hunter will interfere with the acquisition of another hunter, and will not kill nor capture another hunter's acquisition as though that acquisition were still a fugitive.
