Akwali Sekhat: a Faith of Southrun

Akwali Sekhat, or Sisters of Sekhat, is the name given to the strange society of Southrun which is headed by a noble woman known as... Al Adhra, the Virgin. The Sisters live in a mountain redoubt completely isolated from the affairs of men. There they are devoted to the worship of their goddess Sekhat, and only leave its confines to practice their cruel murderous rites.

The society is wholly made up of women. Indeed, for a man to enter their fortress is to earn a death sentence. Their society grows from runaway women, absconded servants, abducted children and abandoned widows. Their leader is chosen from among their number by the casting of lots.

The Sisters worship the goddess Sekhat, who is believed to have been slain by her brothers Amir and Bhamut, during their divine feud. The worship of this deity requires the ritualized murder of men. To complete this rite, the Sisters have been known to waylay travelers, infiltrate noble houses, and abduct those who are unawares.

The Sisters also offer their services for hire. All of the nobility of Southrun is aware of the Akwali Sekhat and will often contract with them to remove enemies and rivals. It is believed that by giving them a steady supply of victims, other men will be safer from random attacks.

The Sisters rely heavily on poisons and strangulations to achieve their ends. Many victims have been found with silk sashes around their throats or with faces locked in pain at their passing.

An Inventory of the Emirates and Satrapcies of Southrun by Mamlaka

The Mamlakas of Southrun are ruled by the hereditary Maliks of Byza and Midir. Each of them has vested their power into Emirs (princes) and Satraps (governors). Only the Emirs are permitted to fortify their holdings with walls and each is related to the Malik by marriage or blood. The remaining Satraps are appointees who rule large provinces but may not build large fortified structures on them.

The domain seat of every Emirate is surrounded by massive poured-stone walls which are well-suited for the mild temperatures of the region. They are otherwise like any large cities encountered in Westrun, filled with men of all stations.

The Satraps are men appointed, typically based on their earning, to govern large areas of land and to see to their cultivation. They are permitted modest control of the Maliks armies that are stationed in their Satrapcies, but are well aware that the loyalty of these troops is not to them first. They have the unlimited chartered power to lay and collect taxes from their residents, to license marriages and other enterprises, as well as to keep the peace on their lands.

Magister Al-emir

Arrogant : Rude. Ponderous.
motto : Try to turn enemies into friends by doing something nice for them.

Al-emir the all-knowing is the foremost diviner in all of Erenth. It is said that he speaks every language that is known and does so fluently and flawlessly. He often demonstrates this ability by using words and idioms from other tongues.

Al-emir is often called "The Prince" and his college is sometimes referred to as the "Principality." It is widely known for having two different educational tracks: one for those intended for divination and one for those interested in learning other tongues. Nobles from all over Erenth will send their children to the Principality to learn under the auspices of Al-emir.
