The Freeholds are those baronies which claim to be free and independent of any monarch, anywhere. Though they exist in each of the Four Lands and are fairly prevalent, they are generally remote enough to escape the attention of the Kings who make nominal claim to their lands. Still these Freeholders are active along trade routes and have come, in some cases, to be relied upon by the very ruler's whose authority they rebuff.
