A typical lord's manse in southern Talir is built upon stilts sunk into the wet and soft ground. Much of it lies underwater for most of the year. The wealthy build catwalks to connect their houses and farms, while the poor make do on swamp boats and on foot.
The marshlands are brackish and support many creatures which make up a large part of the diet of the citizens -- alligator, shrimp and turtle.
