Canon 27: The Path

In 5108 as the elves reckon time, the priests of old then assembled and came to Gamasiel and said, "What does this new god require of us and how shall we say to worship him?"

And Gamasiel said, "This is not a new god as you suppose. For I bring you an older way and a God forgotten from ages past. Nevertheless, thou shall tell the people to act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly. As for yourselves, you will follow the strictures I lay down. For as God speaks to me, I will speak to you."

Then many of the priests with greater precedence in the false way grew angry and demanded more signs and more answers, saying, "Do you mean to begin a contest between our gods and yours? Your signs have brought many to your god, should there now be a war between our followers and yours?"

And Gamasiel said, "The war is over and the battle ended. For it occurred in places that you cannot perceive. The God of all things has brought low the tyrants and pretenders that you serve. They are powerless and can oppress you no longer.

Then many of the priests sought to smite him, but their powers failed them and their gods would not, or could not heed them. With great imprecation they called down fire and lightning but it would not come. They called upon beings great and small to answer them, but none came to their aid.

Finally, they left the Grand Temple, downtrodden and demoralized, and vowing to return in force. But the people would not rise with them and only a small number sought to slay The Shepherds and Gamasiel, but they were proven weak and petty in the end.
