Canon 23: The Seventh Sign against Ninlee

In spring of the year 5108, when the voice which called to him said, "Choose a god which your temple worships and have him show forth his power."

Because the season was ripe for whirlwinds and the goddess Ninlee was often besought for protection, Gamasiel went to his fellow priests during the annual Ceremony of the Wind and asked for a sign. The priests agreed that the collection for the goddess had never been greater and that her protection was assured. For this reason, the roofs and homes of the small people would be safe upon the plains and prosperity would come to them.

But the wind was not a peace with the coming of morning, for a whirlwind appeared in the sky and came to a rest atop the hillside temple of Ninlee. No other buildings were effected, but the roof of that place was torn asunder and the gold which had been offered there was taken into the sky and scattered for miles in all directions.

The statue of Ninlee herself, was taken up by the whirlwind and cast against the side of Oromir to become dust. The walls of that place were taken down and thrown wide, and the drapery of her silk vestments were blown and not seen again in one piece. But many of the small people knew wealth for the scattering of all the gold, and many found themselves clothed in silk for time thereafter.

So the priests of Ninlee said that their prophecy had been true for prosperity had come to the small people. Yet many there were who left the worship of Ninlee and pledged themselves to the Gamasiel's Forgotten God.
