Aandol the Holy

Aandol the Holy was a knight of the Principalities in 5130ey and is often called the first Paladin, from which word, his house took its name.

A devout follower of the Westrun Church, Aandol had considered becoming a priest, but left off his formation declaring that his hand was made for the sword and not the pen. He intervened in the highway robbery of a drunk and saved the victim from certain death. Aandol carried the unconscious man to a local church. After which, the man was discovered to be a knight and immediately knighted Aandol, calling him the Holy.

After this, Aandol locked himself in the church overnight, praying that he would keep his vows with all sincerity. For he had seen how the elder knight's drunkenness had made a mockery of his station. A visiting Prefect to the church took notice of Aandol's devotion and after speaking with him heard how he feared disgrace more than a life of danger. To placate the young man's conscience, the Prefect had Aandol swear a secondary oath of religious obedience and became his spiritual mentor.

At the Tournament of Flowers in 5130, Aandol competed against a young prince in the joust. After breaking his lance upon the younger man's shield, a splinter of his lance was driven into the prince's throat -- a wound that most agreed should have been fatal. Aandol dismounted and cradled his rival on his lap, withdrew the lance, and then placed his hands gently over the wound. For the space of several seconds, there was silence, but then the younger man stirred and coughed. Both men were covered in the prince's blood, but the throat wound was completely healed.

Later, Aandol displaced the death cult that was entrenched in Midinia at the time -- slaying their high priest and most devout, while making converts of the survivors.
