The Kingdom of Balduren cannot be understood in the same way as the other Eight Kingdoms. The government is different. The land is different. The history is different.
It is the history I shall begin with, for I too am a son of Balduren and I have learned it well. Long before I was employed in the court of then King of Wanderhalt, I had lived a life, and nearly lost it, on the sweeping plains of that land. But it wasn't until I entered Wanderhalt's ancient libraries of paper and dust, that I truly learned the story of my people and the place that ought to have remained my home.
History
To truly understand the Kingdom of Balduren, one must delve into the ancient past, before the rise of the Eight Kingdoms; before the petty monarchies that dotted the Land of Westrun; before the tribes of humans emerged; and before any of the exploits of the Men of Renown. The ancient Vyrum Empire ruled the known world then, sharing their genius from the glittering Alds they erected. Mankind, in those days, such as could be tamed, were servants. They were brutish and had little to commend them.
